Inspiring Peace: The International Day of Sport

The world celebrates International Day of Sport on April 6 in recognition of the role that sports play in fostering positive change. Due to its vast reach, unparalleled popularity and foundation of positive values, sport is ideally positioned to contribute towards the United Nations’ objectives for development and peace.

This is evident by the work of the International Olympic Committee and countless sporting bodies across the globe that are actively contributing to social change through sport. They are doing this through a variety of different ways, including supporting sport for development efforts at the local level, hosting events and even creating their own sport-related campaigns and initiatives.

This year’s theme for the International Day of Sport is “Sport and the Promotion of Inclusive Societies”. This emphasises the unique ability of sports to unite people, promote understanding and foster peace amongst diverse cultures around the world.

The event will feature speakers from the international sporting community, who will share their experience of how they collaborate to make a positive impact on people and communities. These efforts help to support the Sustainable Development Goals – 17 global targets that aim to transform the world in various areas, including poverty and hunger, education, health, gender equality, climate change and more.

In addition, the speakers will highlight how they are empowering women and girls, youth and marginalised groups through sport. This is done by offering safe spaces and providing opportunities for meaningful interaction and dialogue, while also helping to provide access to education and employment.

During the event, the organisers will also highlight the contribution that the International Day of Sport is making in supporting the work being done by various stakeholders to achieve the SDGs and beyond. The event will conclude with a call for action to further harness the power of sport to support global efforts to transform the world.

For those unable to attend the event, it will be broadcast on the UN WebTV channel. To watch the livestream, visit this link. If you want to know more, you can visit 해외스포츠중계.

This can be a great way to relax and enjoy the company of family or friends, while you can also ponder on the importance of International Day of Sport.
